Latvian Braid Knitting (Intermediate) with Deborah Burger

October 1, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Latvian Braid is a decorative horizontal trim, usually worked in 2 or 3 colors. It is useful for neck or sleeve cuff edgings, (or edges of any knitted item), or to highlight the change from one section of a piece to another. By itself, Latvian braid can make a fun bracelet, headband, or purse strap. It is not a difficult technique, but also not a fast one to work– making Latvian Braid is a slow, gentle, zen process. In the class we will make a bracelet consisting of one or more parallel braids worked in the round.
This class is intended for knitters with basic skills, comfortable working around a small circle on your choice of dpn, 2 circs, or magic loop. These techniques will not be taught in the workshop. It is up to each student to use her preferred circular method.
You will need: Two highly contrasting colors of the same yarn. Worsted will yield a chunky “cuff” bracelet, worked on #7 or #8 needles. Sock or Dk yarn worked on #3 or #5 needles will yield a thinner, finer bracelet. Free Pattern will be provided for all gauges.
Maximum Class Size: 8
